see you guys there! *muah*
If you lived on a deserted island and could only have one photograph, which one would it be?
I would either have the picture of me and my parents (when they were still together)... or I would have the picture of Rachael, Mr. Langford, and I. Would it be cheating if I glued them together? And of course since they aren't exactly photographs, I'd have a diagram to help me survive.

It is exact, specific; and it demands exact acoustics. A conductor's full score is a chart, a graph that indicates frequencies, intensities, volume changes, melody, and harmony all at once with the most exact control of time.

It is thematically based on the subdivisions of time into fractions, which must be done instantaneously, not worked out on paper.

Most of the terms are Italian, German or French; and the notation is certainly not English - but a highly developed kind of shorthand that uses symbols to represent ideas. The semantics of music is the most complex and universal language.

Music usually reflects the environment and times of its creation; often even the country and/or racial feeling of the times.

It requires fantastic coordination of fingers, hands, arms, lip, cheek, and facial muscles, in addition to the extraordinary control of the diaphragmatic, back, stomach, and chest muscles, which respond instantly to the sound the ear hears and the mind interprets.

It allows a human being to take all these dry, technically boring (but difficult) techniques and use them to create emotion. That is one thing science cannot duplicate; human feeling, emotion, call it what you will.

Not because I expect you to major in music.
Not because I expect you to play or sing all your life.
Not so you can relax or have fun.
BUT... so you will be human, you will recognize beauty,
you will be sensitive, you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world,
you will have something to cling to,
you will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more good...
in short, so you will have more life.

Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to live?

Top Ten Reasons: "You know your in the Raider Band when…"
10) You are ready to hurt the next bassist who dosen't tune to the band.
9) The word piccolo is not in your band vocabulary.
8) You sometimes cheer louder than the cheerleaders.
7) You aren't phased by yelling weird words when called to attention.
6) You can sing ESPN over and over and over and over and over.
5) You've caught yourself adding "God forbid," or "Don't be that person," into your sentences.
4) You're fully aquainted with Dr. Beat
3) It only takes one of Mr. Langford's faces for everyone to behave
2) You give 110% at every performance

1) You are a good person all together. God forbid there were a few horrible days, and you won't be that person that let's everyone down.

The Death of a Teacher
Mrs. Edwards, 8th grade teacher on Team VI died Monday morning. She was in an accident and while in surgery died. I did not have her, but I knew her to the point where I felt my heart tear and I was upset. Then I get a double whammy, I see my best friend's upset, lives almost shattered. She was their favorite teacher. It's so horrible. She was only 31 and left behind a husband and 3 year old twins.

Yesterday our school lost a good student and a good friend. Even worse, my best friend (lomenochia) lost her cousin. This great kid, Dallas, will be missed by many and especially those who knew him well. He left this world yesterday because of cancer. It was too early to lose him and it pains me that some of the doctors were just sitting on their rump.

Song Dedication: I dedicate the song "Streets of Heaven" by Sherrié Austin. ((although you would change "she" to "he" and the age.))

"Hello God, it's me again. 2:00 a.m., Room 304.
Visiting hours are over, time for our bedside tug of war.
This sleeping child between us may not make it through the night.
I'm fighting back the tears as she fights for her life.
Well, it must be kind of crowded,
On the streets of Heaven.
So tell me: what do you need her for?
Don't you know one day she'll be your little girl forever.
But right now I need her so much more.
She's much too young to be on her own:
Barely just turned seven.
So who will hold her hand when she crosses the streets of Heaven?
